Police: Man arrested on first-degree murder charge after Charleston death

CHARLESTON -- A man was arrested after another man reportedly died due to a gunshot injury he suffered after an altercation Thursday.

Donny Deer, 26, faces one count of first-degree murder in connection with the death, according to a Friday news release from Arkansas State Police.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office requested State Police investigate the incident about 1:51 a.m. Thursday, the news release states. Deputies responded to a call to a home in the 100 block of Church Street in Charleston and found Daniel Davis, 43, inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davis' body will be taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock, where the manner and cause of his death will be determined, according to the news release.
