Clyde E. Traylor, 83, of Fort Smith, Ark., formerly of Clarksville, Ark., passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. He was the owner and operator of Clyde Traylor, Inc., a construction company specializing in commercial, industrial, and educational facilities. In 1958, Clyde was named by the Arkansas High School Coaches Association as most valuable player in the All-Star Basketball Game. Clyde was a first team All-American baseball player with the second highest batting average in the country, ranging from .391 to .456. He was a 1962 graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College, with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 2015, he was inducted into the UCA Sports Hall of Fame for baseball and basketball. Clyde is preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Bessie Traylor; three brothers: Wayne, Marvin, and Bob Traylor; and two sisters-in-law: Eloise and Mary Traylor. He is survived by his wife, Anna Traylor, of Ft. Smith; two daughters: Michele Wood and her husband, Fred, of Clarksville, and Melissa Burris, of Sherwood, Ark.; his son, James Traylor, and his wife, Stacia, of Sherwood; sister, Shirley Bickerstaff, and her husband, Jimmy, of Moro, Ark.; two brothers: Carl Traylor, of Clarksville, and Dwight Traylor, and his wife, Linda, of Cabot, Ark.; and sister-in-law, Leatrice Traylor, of Moro, Ark.; eight grandchildren: Carson and Cooper Traylor, Hailey, David and Hardin Burris, Ty, Sophie and Trever Wood, and his wife, Sonya; and four great-grandchildren: Charles, Stephen, Caleb, and Kaylyn Wood. Clyde and Anna spent 36 years together, building a beautiful loving home for their family and close friends. Their friends were more like family and they often hosted parties where all would come together like one big extended family. Internment of Clyde's ashes will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Booneville, Ark. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Cremation is directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
